ABOUT SCCS

The term "Promotion" in the context of software development refers to managing cycle of Development, Testing, Quality Assurance, re- work, re-test and finally in the release and distribution to production or "live" environments. This process is also known as life-cycle management. Retirement or source item abandonment or is the final step of life-cycle management.

A tyical 3 tier promotion hierarchy:

As items controlled by Nucleus source code control are released (from Source Code Control), ItemID’s are added to the ProjectName.RELLIST in the file, SCCS,LISTS. A “release set” or “build” (ProjectName.RELLIST) the initial ProjectName.RELLIST would be created using SCCS.RELDUMP. RELLISTs are automatically updated as items are checked out and/or released from source code control.

The list of items under source code control can be viewed or managed using the Nucleus utility, NUPROJECT.
