Butler Shaffer

Butler is a Professor of Law at Southwestern University School of Law, and a member of the Colorado and Nebraska State Bars. In 2002, he was named as the Irwin R. Buchalter Professor of Law in recognition of his outstanding contributions to legal education and scholarship. From the view of a "modern social historian and philosopher," Professor Shaffer has written numerous books and articles on social theory, business and labor law, and has spoken on these topics before a variety of academic and special interest forums, on network television, cable and radio.
The focus of his speech will be on the subjective nature of all human understanding and values: That we can only know the universe through our subjectively-held opinions; that the current crises in the world (terrorism, the war on terror, etc.) are outgrowths of the self-righteousness than comes from a belief in objectively-defined knowledge and values.
