ITEM-ID
The item-id is a unique string of characters identifying a particular item in a given filename.
The item-id is what gives the MultiValue database platforms the ability to have order of one access to items in files, meaning that access time is independent from the amount of data that resides in the file. In most cases, the item-id is hashed to the specific group in which it should be found for almost instantaneous access.
Any restrictions on the length and content of item-id's are dependent upon which database platform is being employed.
