Her writing career began in 1983 with Super Parents Super Children, which was published in seven countries and translated into five languages.

In 1986 she started her own publishing business, Amagi books, and co-authored South Africa the Solution with her husband Leon Louw. The Solution is the top political bestseller in South Africa's history. It received favourable reviews in the Wall Street Journal, Time and the Economist and sold over 70 000 copies in this country alone.

The Solution was followed by two more political books, after which Frances changed gear with The sexy Factor, which throws light on the differences between men and women - published in 1993, and the basis for her very popular presentation Sizing up the Sexes.
