John A. "Jack" Pugsley
John Pugsley is one of the original members of the Eris Society.
He is a graduate of UCLA. After many years in business as the president of a number of manufacturing, service, and marketing companies, he entered the investment field. His experiences in this field led him to write his first book, Common Sense Economics (1974), which sold over 150,000 hardcover copies. His second book, The Alpha Strategy, remained on the New York Times bestseller list for nine weeks in 1981.
For 10 years starting the mid-1970s he wrote and published Common Sense Viewpoint, an investment newsletter which became a widely respected and successful publication, reaching 30,000 subscribers. For an additional 10 years he wrote John Pugsley’s Journal.
In addition to writing, Mr. Pugsley's unique ability so clarify complicated economic and investment concepts has won him wide acclaim as a speaker, and as well as appearing on numerous radio and TV talk shows, he has spoken at over 100 conferences and seminars throughout the world
In 1997 Mr. Pugsley was involved in the founding of The Sovereign Society, an international organization of whose members actively work together to develop legal and moral ways in which to retain privacy and individual liberty. The Society’s website is www.sovereignsociety.com.
He is currently Chairman of the Society.
John’s well-developed individualist philosophy derives from the evolutionary roots of human nature. In this regard, he is the founder of The Bio-Rational Institute, an organization dedicated to fostering personal fulfillment and social progress through an understanding of the evolutionary roots of human behavior. John has spoken at numerous Eris Society meetings down through the years, and his iconoclastic views have always provided the meetings with thought-provoking and spirited controversy.
