Uploading Images to NuWiki
Here's what you should know about uploading images and other binary items to NuWiki.com:
- First off, you should consider storing your images on any other source, like Flickr, for example, and just link to them from your NuWiki page. We'll explain more on this later.
- We limit the size of uploaded images to a maximum of 100k (roughly 100,000 bytes)
- We limit the types of files to JPG, GIF and PNG only. (No BMP's, TIF,s etc.)
- Your uploaded image is not immediately visible to you, as it must be cleared and approved by an admin.
While this may sound a bit restrictive, it is built this way to discourage people from using NuWiki to store vast image collections or "objectionable" content.
How to Link to an Image
To demonstrate linking photos, we searched through the Google photo archives for an image of a Binary Star and found one at NASA. Since our tax dollars help support NASA, we feel much less guilty about linking to an image that they host, so here's how we did it:
First, we found the URL for the actual photo - not the page that hosted it - this is important. That URL was:
http://imagine.gsfc.nasa.gov/Images/news/bh_accretion_med.jpg
Next, while we were in the Edit panel, we clicked the Image button --
:
That inserted the NuWiki markup [[IMAGE:]] into our document, and we simply pasted the URL in after the ":" so that it looked like this:
[[IMAGE:http://imagine.gsfc.nasa.gov/Images/news/bh_accretion_med.jpg]]
And here is what we see on the Preview (or saved) page:

Finding the URL of the Photo
To get the actual URL of a photo, it depends on which browser you are using.
In FireFox (You are using FireFox, right?), it is a simple matter of:
- Right click the image
- Pull down to "View Image"
- Click
- The image opens in a new Window
- Highlight and copy (CTL+C) the URL
In Explorer:
- Go to mozilla.com and download FireFox. (Okay, this is optional.)
- Right click the image
- Pull down to "Properties"
- Next to the Field tag that says "Address: (URL)" is the image URL. Highlight this and copy (CTL+C) the URL
Here's a cute puppy from Flickr.com, who provides large amounts of storage for your photos and stuff, absolutely free:

Linking to Local Images
If you decide to play by the rules outlined at the top of this topic, and your image is approved, you can simply reference the image by the name of the file you uploaded.
For example, here's how we reference the image of our emergency, auxiliary backup puppy Shelby:
Which yields this happy face in Preview:
