Stephen Browne

Speaker, 2004

Stephen Browne, who holds an M.A. in anthropology, moved to Poland in 1991 to teach in a new private high school. In 1993, he started the English program of the first non-public college of science to be founded in Poland since the communist era. Browne moved to Bulgaria in 1996 to teach at the Institute for Foreign Students in Sofia—he barely survived a massive inflation of 10% per day on local wages and witnessed the fall of the last government with communist participation. Stephen is going to talk about the Language of Liberty and spreading the meme of freedom through English language instruction. The former Communist lands of Eastern Europe, confronted with the total collapse of the Marxist model, show a receptiveness to new ideas that does not exist to the same extent in the West. The Liberty Language Camp is dedicated to putting the tools of success into the hands of citizens of the former Soviet lands.
